Porcelain Veneers
What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain Veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain which are bonded onto the front side of teeth. They can be an excellent cosmetic solution for teeth that are stained, chipped or slightly misaligned.
What are the advantages of Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain Veneers are translucent and allow light to pass through them. This makes them a lot more natural than the metal based full coverage crowns, which used to be the only thing on offer. The translucency of the porcelain creates a lustrous appearance that very closely resembles natural tooth enamel.
Another advantage of porcelain veneers is that significantly less tooth structure needs to be reduced than when preparing the tooth for a crown. This is because veneers are very thin, and usually only wrap around half to three quarters of the tooth, as opposed to the full coverage of a crown. Removing less tooth structure is a very positive thing. We aim to be as minimally invasive as possible at Queen Street Dental, so that you retain strong healthy natural tooth structure.
The dentists at Queen Street Dental usually have their Porcelain Veneers custom made at a trusted dental laboratory in Auckland, but for some cases, may be able to make them up on the spot with the CEREC machine.
